Planning your wedding can be one of the most stressful yet exciting times in your life, but it's easy to get overwhelmed with all the different options out there. Knowing where to start is actually quite a big challenge. 

Here are some sample timings for you to consider (this is not an exhaustive list and timings should be decided by yourselves) 

12 Months or More

Announce your engagement. It's important to let family know first. Some couples just don’t feel right if anyone knows their big news before their parents and other close family members.

Choose your engagement ring

Determine the style and theme of your wedding, whether it is to be formal, semi-formal or informal

Discuss the wedding budget and who will pay for what. If parents are not paying, then the budget may need to be smaller. Make a list of what is important to you and where the budget will be spent.

Decide on a wedding date and start searching wedding venues

9 To 12 Months Before

Advise your out of town guests who do not live in the area, to book their accommodation as soon as possible - Ox Pasture Hall Hotel has a good selection of room types to suit most budgets and recommends that wedding guests  book their accommodation as soon as possible, as bedrooms may not be available nearer the time. Some weddings book their guests accommodation at the time of booking their wedding, so that they guarantee their guests are booked in at Ox Pasture Hall.

If your chosen wedding supplier is available on your wedding date, we recommend that you book them immediately, as they may not be available nearer the time.

Compile a preliminary guest list

Look through bridal magazines, visit wedding fayres and search online for ideas for your big day

Finalise your wedding colours and theme for your wedding

Choose your bridesmaids, groomsmen, ushers, flower girl and best man for your big day

Choose and purchase your wedding rings

 

6 To 9 Months Before

Start planning ceremony and reception music choices

Start looking at invitation design

Book and finalise any suppliers you have not already done

Begin looking at honeymoon options

 

3 To 6 Months Before

Contact your suppliers and finalise your arrangements

Order Wedding stationery

Book you wedding cars and transport (if using)

Choose your wedding cake and order

Decide on your wedding decorations including favours

Finalise wedding presents list

Sign up for your chosen gift suppliers, if you want guests to buy presents from a certain shop or department store

 

3 Months Before

Finalise your guest list

Meet with the registrar or person who will conduct your wedding ceremony, to discuss details

Choose gifts for your attendants and parents

Groom and male members of the wedding party to arrange for a suit fitting

Start writing your wedding vows, if you are doing them yourself

Send out your invitations

 

2 Months Before

Meet with wedding suppliers to finalise arrangements

Schedule a hair and makeup trial with chosen hair and beauty professionals

Finalise music selections for the ceremony and reception

Meet with registrar or officiant to finalise ceremony details

Start working on your seating plan

Buy wedding favours

Contact any guests you have not received an acceptance from before confirming numbers  

 

1 Month Before

Meet with your photographer and provide a list of required photographs. Take photographer around venue

Decide and confirm your wedding vows and ensure your officiant has been sent copies

Final payments with suppliers

Confirm dates and timings with suppliers

Collect marriage licence

Arrange for a final wedding dress fitting

Give final guest numbers to your chosen venue

 

2 Weeks Before 

Finalise Seating chart

Confirm delivery time and locations with all wedding suppliers

 

1 Week Before

Collect wedding gown, bridesmaid, flower girl dresses and accessories

Final suit fitting

Check everything with suppliers again

Wedding rehearsal Beauty treatments if having (manicure, pedicure, haircut etc)

Confirm wedding day transportation (if using)

Reconfirm hair and make-up appointments for the wedding day

Confirm all duties required with the wedding party

 

Your Wedding Day

Try to relax, eat and not stress out

Have your hair and makeup done

Begin dressing two hours before ceremony is scheduled to begin (allow longer time if travelling a distance to wedding venue)
